5 Ways To Double Your Productivity

It’s about that time of year again! Even though I’m now a grad, I still feel like summer was a minute long. Are we all ready for the semester babes? Got all our shopping done? No? Don’t panic…I’m here to help make this year a breeze with budget-friendly, trendy decor, and spilling my secrets on getting that 4.0. To kick things off, today we’re talking productivity! From new morning routine habits to implement to a delicious cold brew coffee recipe to stay energized, read on for all my latest tips to staying (or getting) on your A game.

1. Make Your Bed As Soon As You Get Up

*Cue the eye rolls* I get it, I get it. But hear me out! I’ve talked about this in a video before, but it’s changed my life okay! If you haven’t seen McRaven’s viral speech or read his book about it, he says it best: “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right. If, by chance, you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that’s made. That you made. And a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”

2. Swap The Sugary Drinks For SToK Cold Brew

I’m basically subtweeting my past self who threw 3 sugar cubes and creamer into every cup of coffee (can you even call it that?) I made freshman year. I know…I’m disturbed too. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that I realized just how many extra calories, fat, and sugar I was consuming a day for really no reason. Instead of helping me focus, the sugar and cream made me feel groggy and crash midday. I made the switch to black coffee, and I haven’t gone back since!  In these warm months, I prefer cold brew coffee as it’s way more refreshing. My favorite is SToK Un-Sweet Black Cold-Brew Coffee, since there’s no sugar or cream, and the flavor is bold and smooth on it’s own. That’s because it’s slowly brewed for 10 hours, and has a higher ratio of coffee beans to water than the average coffee. Yes, please.  I drink this all the time on ice for my daily boost of energy, but for the days you want to spice it up (or to prove to yourself you don’t need those sugary alternatives) I’ve concocted this Spiced Cacao Cold Brew recipe that’s about to be your new obsession!

What You’ll Need:

  1. 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  2. 1 TBS Cacao Powder
  3. 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  4. Unsweetened Almond Milk (or any non-dairy milk)
  5. SToK Un-Sweet Black Cold-Brew Coffee
  6. Agave or natural sweetener (optional)

Steps:

  1. Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender until combined. I love this one which I used throughout college.
  2. Add ice cubes into a glass, pour cold brew mixture on top.
  3. Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon, add an optional reusable straw & enjoy!

This recipe is SO easy & quick, you can whip it up in the morning before class or whenever you need to power through that homework or paper that’s due. You can get SToK Un-Sweet Black Cold-Brew 48 oz. at Target, and right now you can save 20% on select SToK cold brew coffee 8/5 – 9/8 on Cartwheel! Score!

3. Set Daily Intentions & Gratitude

Keep a gratitude journal and pen next to your bed for easy access. First thing in the morning (or right before bed, whatever works best for you!) write out your intentions and 3 things you’re grateful for that day (or the following day if at night). They can be small things or big things, but making a habit out of this will keep you in check of what’s important to you. You’ll reach your goals sooner if you keep yourself in check and make intentions to work towards them every day. Also taking the time to remind yourself of what you have to be grateful for is key (at least to me) to attracting even more goodness into your life. It’s all about a positive mindset people!

4. Read For Pleasure

It’s hard to set aside time to read for pleasure these days, let alone in college when you have assigned textbooks to read on top of everything else. But I can’t stress enough how much prioritizing this improved my wellbeing! We all seem to have time to unwind with Netflix before bed, but that time could be better spent diving into a new book! Our screens actually delays our body’s circadian rhythm and reduces melatonin (the sleep-inducing hormone) making it harder to to fall or stay asleep. I don’t know about you, but I seem to pass out SO fast when I read at night, it’s actually a dreaaaam! Swap that screen for a fun read and get that sleep you deserve boo!

5. Install StayFocusd

I’ll be the first to admit that I mindlessly and unconsciously scroll through social media or real estate websites (I’m not even looking to buy yet??) and easily lose track of time! Stayfocusd is a browser extension you can install to keep you focused by limiting your time spent on all your guilty-pleasure sites. Choose which sites you want to “block” yourself from after a certain time limit (I suggest 10-30 min max!) on the days you need to be productive! This is especially helpful when I have a time-sensitive project and I WISH I knew about this in college!

I hope you utilize these tips to get and stay on top of things, as they have helped me double my productivity! Let me know your thoughts and habits you implement below!

xx
