Make out everyday? Don’t mind if I do…
One of my favorite things about LA is the abundance of aesthetically-pleasing yet downright delicious cafes. I have college to thank for my addiction to coffee, and the shops I’d spend most of my afternoons studying in and working on videos. The hours I spend each week editing content creates an element of solitude, so I crave an inspiring environment to get to work. Hence my love for cafes: the stomping grounds for fellow caffeine enthusiasts to get their fix while getting shit done. A place to mingle, collaborate, and people-watch (obligatory).
Welcome to Make Out, a cafe that promises everyday plant food, set in the heart of downtown Culver City. When I first strolled past this place, I was drawn in by the plump silhouette of lips that almost seem to be drooling–a great foreshadow for what I’d look like shortly after trying their chai for the first time. 100% vegan and 90% raw, Make Out provides a breezy experience for health connoisseurs looking to get their daily dose of fuel. Any fellow veg heads can back me up when I say not having to scour a menu for the limited veg options is as close to paradise as it gets.
Find a variety of fresh juices, smoothies, and your standard coffee and specialty drinks. I must admit, I keep going back to the almond milk chai tea latte. You can also sub brazil nut or pumpkin seed milk if that’s more your jam. They say when you find a good chai, you don’t let it go…okay maybe I just say that. They hold a special place in my heart okay? It can be difficult finding that perfect chai–not overly sweet, the right amount of spice, not watered down. This baby checked off all the boxes, so if you’re unsure of what to order, try this! Something I am not a big fan of is their matcha latte, but I am very picky when it comes to this drink! I’m into the westernized version of the drink, typically with a milk (as opposed to water) and slightly sweetened. They’re always a hit or miss with me, as they are often way too sweet, or taste like straight up water with a hint of tea. If you enjoy the latter, you would like their version, but for me it lacked that hint of sweetness and creaminess I crave in a matcha.
Don’t get me started on the aesthetics of this place, because I will not stop raving about it. Prepare to walk into an open, clean and modern space. Crisp and white with a pop of nature, like this wall plant. Oh my gosh, I want this in my apartment so badly!
Whether you live in LA or are planning a visit, consider adding Make Out to your list of pit stops, or bring a book or your laptop and stay awhile. I adore the airy yet cozy environment to spend an afternoon or catch up with a friend. It’s nestled in the charming plaza of Culver City, so you can walk around and explore the historic Culver Hotel next door, catch a movie at the Arclight, do some shopping at the nearby Platform, or stroll to the nearest production studio.
Have you been to Make Out? What are your favorite cafes here in LA, or in your town? Do you prefer an airy, calm coffee shop, or a dark, rustic kind of vibe? I wanna know your thoughts!
